(Chapel Main) (Chapel Photos) (Blessing of the Chapel by Bishop Allen H. Vigneron) (Chapel Relics) (First Mass) Chapel of the Holy Spirit
The Dove is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit. Thus it is fitting that at the House of the Dove the Chapel be named in honor of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity.
Deacon Dave designed the Chapel and personally
decorated and supervised the décor on the inside to each and every detail.
The Beautiful Chapel of the Holy Spirit located in the gardens of the House of the Dove is considered by Deacon Dave as the Diamond of Casa del Pomba. The Chapel holds four of the original 14 Stations of the Cross dating to 1918 that were in St. Michael Church prior to the remolding in the 1960’s. Two beautiful oak panels (1918) that stood along side of the original altar, now stand along side the tabernacle in the Chapel. The restoration of the old Tabernacle by the deacon took over 35 hours. The large Crucifix hanging on above the Tabernacle dates to 1849 Spain and was restored by Deacon Dave.
The captivating symbol of the Holy Spirit captures the eye upon entering the Chapel. It rests in an oval window high above the Tabernacle and heavenly rays surround the White Dove. The piece was hand carved by the Benedictine Monks in Bavaria, Germany. The Altar was personally designed by the deacon himself. The last joint Christmas Gift by deacon’s mother and father is placed inside the Altar. Deacon Dave’s father died six months later. The sculpted piece of a Cross with an open bible flanked by two doves rests in the mission arch of the Altar. Three Statues date to the early 1800’s came from the old wooden Catholic Church of Mission San Jose in Fremont. Father John Williams removed many of the Statues and attempted to place them in religious settings before the old church was removed to make way for restoration of the Mission to what exists today.
Many sacred relics of saints rest in the Chapel. Relics are objects associated with saints. First Class Relic is an actual body part such as a bone fragment. A Second Class Relic is a part of the saints clothing or some other article used by the saint. Third Class Relics are objects touched to a first class relic. The Chapel holds only First and Second Class Relics of the following saints: Blessed Padre Junipero Serra, O.F.M., St. John Bosco, St. Maria Goretti, St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton (First United States of America Saint), St. Pope Pius X, St. Claret. The Chapel is not open to the general public. Visiting deacons, priests and invited guests enjoy the silence and tranquil peace of the Chapel and surrounding meditation gardens.
On occasion on a quiet summer night the Chanting of evening prayer can be heard by neighbors. The Advent/Christmas season at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit takes on a heavenly enchanted look as seen in the Christmas 2005 photos A state of the art wireless security system covers the Chapel, Main House and other buildings as well as the grounds of Casa del Pomba. The Deacon is very grateful to the donors and installers. |
